Welcome to Metis Bookshop, an independent second-hand bookshop based in Stockport, where we believe that every book deserves another chance to be read, loved and enjoyed.
We specialise in quality pre-loved books for readers of all ages, from much-loved classics and popular fiction to children’s books, non-fiction and those unexpected hidden gems you didn’t know you were looking for.
Giving Books a Second Life
At the heart of Metis Bookshop is a simple idea: books shouldn’t end up in landfill when there are still stories waiting to be discovered.
We rescue books from a variety of sources, carefully sort and process them, and then give them the opportunity to find a new home. Some books have been read once, some have been treasured for years, and others are waiting patiently to be discovered for the first time.
We love the idea that a book can have a life beyond its first owner — and perhaps even go on to be enjoyed by several more readers.
More Than Just an Online Bookshop
Although you can find us online, you’ll also regularly find us out and about at markets, fairs, festivals and community events across Stockport and the surrounding areas.
We love meeting fellow book lovers, chatting about books and helping people discover their next read. Our events also give us the chance to bring a selection of our books directly to the community.
We also work with charities, community groups and other organisations, including accepting book donations and helping books find new homes where they can be enjoyed.
