Hello to all our new followers 👋📚

We thought it was time to properly introduce ourselves!

We are Metis Bookshop — a small independent business based in Stockport with a love for pre-loved books, hidden gems and giving stories a second chance. ♻️📖

You’ll usually find us at local markets, car boot sales and community events with tables full of books for all ages and interests — from children’s favourites and modern fiction to history, sport, vintage and collectable books.

We also sell books online through eBay, helping books find new homes all across the UK.

One thing we are especially passionate about is rescuing books that might otherwise end up thrown away. We happily accept book donations and can even help collect large quantities if you are having a clear out, moving house or dealing with a loved one’s collection.

After a long Bank Holiday weekend, many people have been sorting cupboards, lofts, spare rooms and bookshelves… and if you’ve discovered piles of books you no longer need, we’d love to give them a new home!

At Metis Bookshop we help rehome pre-loved books through our outdoor bookshop, markets and online sales, helping great books find new readers instead of ending up in landfill. ♻️📖

We happily accept:

One small thing that’s always been important to us at Metis Bookshop is trying to reduce unnecessary plastic where we can.

When you buy from us at one of our open-air markets, we’ll always ask if you would like a bag. Our bags are made from paper, which means they’re recyclable and reusable too! 📚🛍️

And don’t let “paper” fool you… These bags are seriously strong! Back when we ran our IT company, they successfully carried two laptops — even in the rain! 💻🌧️

It might seem like a small change, but reducing single-use plastics where possible can make a big difference over time.

Thank you to everyone who supports small businesses while also helping the environment one book (and one paper bag!) at a time. 💚

💜 Today is World IBD Day 💜

Today is about raising awareness of Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), including Crohn’s Disease and Ulcerative Colitis, and the reality of living with these lifelong conditions.

For many people, IBD is an invisible illness. People often only see you on the “good” days and not the hospital stays, exhaustion, pain, medications, blood tests, fear, or the impact it has on everyday life.

I’ve personally lived with Ulcerative Colitis since 2010. In that time, I’ve had 3 blood transfusions, multiple hospital admissions and now take medications that leave me immunocompromised.

It’s a condition that can completely take over your life at times, but like so many others living with IBD, you learn to keep going even on the difficult days.

World IBD Day is about helping people understand that these conditions are serious, lifelong autoimmune diseases — not “just stomach problems.” It’s also about showing support to the millions of people worldwide living with IBD.

If you know someone living with Crohn’s or Colitis, please remember that kindness, patience and understanding go a very long way. 💜

Thanks to all your support, book purchases, and collections, we’ve outgrown our old setup and taken the leap… and yes, we’ve even gone electric! ⚡📚
